Emergency Management

The Emergency Management program prepares you to conduct emergency planning and training, coordinate disaster response and recovery efforts, and navigate the administrative and technical demands of disaster and emergency management efforts. It is designed to build leaders. Join the next generation of emergency management professionals focused on improving disaster response and outcomes.

Choose from one of four certificate programs, an associate degree, or a bachelor's degree. All required courses are available 100% online, with some hybrid and campus based options available for students who need them

Visual Overview of an Emergency Management Command Center

90 credits, in addition to an existing associate degree, for a total of 180 credits. Uses a structured cohort model, which can be completed full-time in 2 years or part-time in 3 years. This program requires a separate admissions process from your Pierce College application.

93 credits, which can be completed full-time in as few as 6 terms, or part-time for several years.

20 credits, which can be completed in 2 terms (requires completion of an associate degree prior to admission).

24 credits, which can be completed in as few as 2 terms. Eligible for Military Service to Education funding.

13 credits, which can be completed in just 1 term or as many as 3. Can easily be added to any healthcare or HSEM pathway.

24 credits, which can be completed in as few as 3 terms.

Careers in Emergency Management

The Federal Department of Labor identifies emergency management as a high-demand field, one that requires a large number of trained professionals across a number of industry sectors. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a small increase in emergency management directors in coming years in the next year, however the demand for emergency management specialists, emergency management coordinators, and business continuity professionals continues to grow at all levels of government and in private industry.
