About the Geology Program
Geology includes the study of minerals, rocks, the dynamic processes that shape the Earth’s surface over time, the history of life, dinosaurs, and mass extinction events. These include such topics as Earth’s tectonics, volcanism, earthquakes, landslides, streams, and coastlines. Topics such as resources or climate change may be included.
Geology courses at Pierce College are often hands-on and include field trips and laboratory study of minerals, rocks, fossil, and maps. Students are introduced to a wide variety of concepts and experiences aimed at bringing a greater understanding of the Earth's complex and varied geology.
